This dress was mainly inspired by certain Chinese imagery. I was inspired by the artistry of Chinese calligraphy, so I chose a fabric that clearly illustrated how calligraphy can look like a painting or motif. I was also inspired by the form fitting silhouette of a traditional qipao, or cheongsam, thus I tried to create details that would ultimately highlight the wearer's figure. The diagonal pleats and color blocking help to accentuate the waist and create a flattering shape.
