A LARK IN THE PARK

This collection, "Almost Barefoot in the Park," was inspired by two distinct time eras. The inspirations can be divided into two categories: color scheme and silhouette.
The color scheme was based on the impressionist painting Landscape: The Parc Monceau by Claude Monet. The colors that stood out to me the most were the greens, the light blue of the sky mixed with the white clouds, and the dashes of pink. I also liked the texture of the strokes so I tried to find patterns that emulated a similar look.
In terms of silhouette, I pulled ideas from Victorian clothing, the era in which Monet lived. These details gave a more serious and sophisticated look but I also wanted the collection to have a fun feel to it.
I was then inspired by the theme of the movie, Barefoot in the Park (1967). The film's plot about a free spirited woman wanting her more serious and conservative husband to let loose and, for example, walk barefoot in a park. This theme inspired me to look at some late 1960s to early 1970 fashion silhouettes. To add to the concept of seriousness and light-heartedness, this collection uses opaque and sheer fabrics. I think the collection has a nice balance between sophistication and a fun aesthetic. Click here to see a fully constructed look inspired by this concept.
